HIPPIE INC INTERVIEW EXCERPTS (UNPUBLISHED) –
“I would play ball in the park and that’s where I met Janis. I was walking my dog and she was living on Lion Street and she would hang out with me at the Psychedelic Shop, and we became friends. I would go to her flat to take a bath because our water pressure was so low. She and I would go and see Japanese movies together. In 1967, Janis and Big Brother had made big a stir, and she told me that it looked like the band was going to be busy and need another equipment manager. So I signed on and eventually became her road manager. I got $50 a day when we were off the road and $75 when the band was on the road – plus all expenses.” (20111 Interview with Mark Braunstein; Sonoma, County)
Both gentlemen had a big influence on the development of a music culture in the county and in a less overt way, still do.
